Delaware County (Oklahoma)

Delaware County is a county located in the state of Oklahoma in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Jay.

Geography

The County is located almost in the extreme northeast of Oklahoma, on the east by Arkansas and Missouri on and has an area of ​​2052 square kilometers, of which 134 square kilometers are water surface. It borders in Oklahoma clockwise to the following counties: Ottawa County, Adair County, Cherokee County, Mayes County and Craig County.

History

Delaware County was formed on 16 July 1907 as original county of Cherokee country. It was named probably after the origin of some settlers, the Delaware County in New York.
