Delbert Mann

Delbert Martin Mann ( born January 30, 1920 in Lawrence ( Kansas), † November 11, 2007 in Los Angeles, actually Delbert Martin Mann, Jr. ) was an American film and television director.

Life and career

Delbert Mann was awarded in 1956 for his first feature film Marty with the Oscar for best director, after Marty had numerous awards, won the Palme d'Or as, Best Film at the Cannes Film Festival in 1955. The Directors Guild of America honored him later in his career with the Robert B. Aldrich Achievement Award (1997) and the Honorary Life Member Award ( 2002). In 1960 man a star on the Walk of Fame.

As a director, he was involved in a total of 65 film and television productions. Since the late 1960s, he had worked mainly for television, in some productions as a producer.

From 1967 to 1971 man was president of the union Directors Guild of America. From 1941 until her death in 2001, he was married to Ann Caroline Gillespie; from the marriage were born four children.
