The Deleatur (Latin: it may be eliminated or eradicated, Abbr: del ) is a correction characters. It identifies those parts of a manuscript, typescript or text on a printer's proof, which should be removed. It may be letters, words, sentences or whole paragraphs.

Its shape goes back to the small letter " d" in the German cursive.

In the adjustment rules in accordance with DIN 16511 (reproduced at the beginning of the Duden Volume 1 ) is normalized as the Deleaturzeichen repayment characters. The international character encoding Unicode system includes it with the hexadecimal U 20 B0. The sign corresponds to the German pfennig characters.
