Delfín Benítez Cáceres

Delfin " Machetero " Benítez Cáceres ( born September 26, 1910 in Asunción, † September 8, 2004 ) was a Paraguayan football player and football coach. Benítez was striker in his playing career, played his club football in his home country, Argentina, and Colombia, and stood in for both Paraguayan and for the Argentine football team. As a coach, he has worked in Colombia and Venezuela.

Life

Benítez started his career at Libertad in his home town of Asunción. As early as 1930 at the age of 19 he joined the national team at the World Cup in Uruguay. As one of the key players of Paraguay in the early 1930s, the Argentine club Boca Juniors became aware of him and signed him in 1932.

In the following seven years, Benítez became an important player in the team of Juniors. Overall, the striker scored in 162 games 107 goals, which he is the fifth- leading scorer in the history of the club today. He also denied a game for the Argentine national team. In addition, the Boca Juniors won with Benítez in 1934 and 1935, the Championship of Liga Argentina de Fútbol. Benítez is also referred to as " probably the best foreign player who has ever worn the blue and yellow jersey of Boca ".

Beginning in 1939, Benítez played consecutively for the Argentine clubs Racing Club de Avellaneda and Ferro Carril Oeste. 1940, during his time at RC de Avellaneda, he was División than 33 - time scorer scorer both the Argentine Primera and all of South America, along with San Lorenzo Isidro Lángara.

For his home country Paraguay he had in his career 15 games disputed, in which three goals get him.

After retiring from active competition Benítez was a football coach. He led Independiente Medellín 1955 Colombian league titles and coached several Venezuelan clubs. He died in 2004 at the age of 93 years.
