Impact crater

Dents is a system of lakes in the Swedish province of Gävleborg. The system consists of two lakes: the Norra Dellen ( " Northern dents " 61.89110816.685371 ⊙ ) and the Södra dents ( "Southern dents " ⊙ 61.80298616.725197 ).

The Södra dents has a surface area of ​​52 km ² and contains 1.226 million m³ of water. The surface of the Norra Dellen is 82 km ², its volume is 1.489 million m³.

The approximately circular lake system is the result of a meteor impact before about 89.0 ± 2.7 million years ago ( Upper Cretaceous ) .. The impact crater has a diameter of about 19 kilometers.

The two lakes are connected across the Sound Norrboån. The Svågan opens in Friggesund in the northern Lake during Delångersån drains the southern lake at Näsviken the Gulf of Bothnia.
