Delme Thomas

William Delme Thomas ( born September 12, 1942 in Bancyfelin, Carmarthenshire ) is a former Welsh rugby union player who played in the second row. He was active for the Welsh national team and the British and Irish Lions.

Thomas began the rugby at the age of twelve years. Previously, he had played football in particular. In 1966 he was first invited for a tour of the Lions, without having previously played one match for Wales. His international debut came against New Zealand in the second test of the series. He relegating the actual captain Mike Campbell - Lamerton. In 1968 he was again part of the Lions and had to play two test matches in the first row. Both series were clearly lost, the selection did not win a game against the national teams. 1971 succeeded so far the only successful series of the Lions in New Zealand, Thomas was with them again.

In 1972, Thomas the Llanelli RFC as captain for winning the Welsh Cup and a win over the New Zealand All Blacks, who went down in history. A year earlier he had won the Grand Slam with Wales in the Five Nations.
