Delta County (Colorado)
The Delta County is an administrative unit ( county ) in the western part of the U.S. state of Colorado. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Delta.
Geography
The County is located south of the same river Colorado. It covers a region in the northeastern part of the Colorado Plateau and is surrounded by the districts to the north and west Mesa, Montrose and Gunnison in the south in the east. The county is traversed in the southwest of the 290 km long Gunnison, in whose catchment area are smaller settlements; also with Delta the administrative headquarters and also the biggest city of the district. In the southeast Delta still has a small share of the West Elk Mountains, while the north from the dense forests of the Grand Mesa National Forests ( Large tableland ) and Gunnison is.
History
The county was created in 1883 along with Mesa and Montrose from the eastern Gunnison today, still belonged to the one-time all these three counties.

Of the 11,058 households out of which 29.0 percent have children under the age of 18 living with them. 60.3 percent were married couples living together, 7.9 percent were single mothers. 28.2 percent were non-families. 24.8 percent of all households and 12.4 percent lived in people aged 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.43 and the average family size was 2.89.
Based on the county the population was spread out 24.0 percent of residents under the age of 18, 6.3 percent between 18 and 24 years, 23.6 percent between 25 and 44 years, 26.5 percent between 45 and 64 years and 19.7 percent were 65 years old or older. The average age was 42 years. For every 100 females there were 100.8 males to 100 females age 18 and over, there were 98.6 males.
The median income for a household was $ 32,785, and the median income for a family was $ 37,748. Males had a median income of $ 31,348, women $ 19,916. The per capita income was $ 17,152. 12.1 percent of the population and 8.5 percent of families are below the poverty line. This included 15.0 percent of the population under the age of 18 and 9.6 percent of the population aged 65 and over.
