Delta County (Michigan)

Delta County is a county located in the state of Michigan in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Escanaba.

Geography

The County is located south of the geographic center of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, bordered to the south and southeast by Lake Michigan, one of the five Great Lakes, and has an area of ​​5158 square kilometers, of which 2128 square miles are water. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Menominee County, Marquette County, Alger County, Schoolcraft County and on Lake Michigan on the Leelanau County.

History

Delta County was formed in 1843 from parts of Mackinac County and free territory. It was named after the Greek letter delta, since the former Countygrenzen looked like a triangle.
