Demenzsee

The Demenzsee located in the eastern part of Mecklenburg- Vorpommern on the border with Brandenburg. The area of ​​the lake is an exclave of the municipality of the city of Strasburg in the community Uckerland. The western bank is the border of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and Brandenburg.

The lake is a typical Rinnensee and is located in a Endmoränenzug. It was created during the last ice age ( Weichselian ) from a former meltwater channel which permanently filled after the retreat of ice with water. The Demenzsee has a length of approximately 1.08 kilometers and a width of 170 meters. The lake is designated for fishing and is home to fish such as pike, tench, eels, perch, lead, roach and carp.

The name was created by linguistic abrasion. In the Prussian Urmeßtischblatt of 1835 the body of water is referred to as " The Mentz Lake ".
