The Demerara River is a river of 345 km in length in Guyana, which flows near Georgetown in the Atlantic and rises in the tropical rain forest. The dark brown color of the river is primarily the result of large quantities of bauxite earth from the headwaters, which carries the current to the ocean and many kilometers remain visible there to its mouth in the Atlantic Ocean.

The river is one of the main thoroughfares of the country and allows the transport of bauxite - processing products from the industrial center at Linden (105 km from the mouth ) to world markets. The river is in its upper reaches from Malili (245 km from the mouth ) caused by rapids no longer navigable.
