Demeter (satellite)

Demeter ( english Detection of Electro-Magnetic Emissions Transmitted from Earthquake Regions, German: discovery of electromagnetic emissions radiated from earthquake regions ) is a French satellite. It was launched on 29 June 2004 at Baikonur with a Dnepr rocket. He was operated by CNES and served the research of seismic activity on Earth. Demeter was the first satellite, which was based on the satellite bus myriad.

Demeter sent the latest scientific data on 7 December 2010. During the following weeks, the tanks were 15 orbital maneuvers emptied and thereby lowered the orbit by 1.4 km. On 17 March 2011, the satellite was finally shut down.
