Demetrio Albertini ( born August 23, 1971 in Besana in Brianza ( MI), Italy ) is a retired Italian footballer. Albertini's strengths were his mentality and especially its good long passes.
Career
Albertini was midfielder of AC Milan, especially in the 1990s up to the turn of the millennium. He went through all the youth teams of the Lombards. On January 15, 1989 Albertini made his debut in a 4-0 home win against AC Milan Calcio Como. In all, he won five championships with Milan.
In 2002 he was hired for one season on loan at the Spanish capital club Atlético Madrid. Then the move to Lazio Rome followed in the exchange with Giuseppe Pancaro. In the season 2004/ 05 he changed to Atalanta, Albertini remained half a year then again to Spain for FC Barcelona to change. 2005 ended the Italians after only five games for Barça his career, but still took the Spanish league with Barcelona.
Albertini played from 1991 to 2002 a total of 79 times for the Italian national team. He stood twice in the 1994 World Cup and Euro 2000, and Italy in the final of a major tournament, which they lost narrowly respectively. Also at Olympia in 1992, Euro 1996 and the 1998 World Cup, he took part.
After the football scandal in Italy in 2005/ 06, which led, among other things, to the FIGC president Franco Carraro resigned, Albertini was appointed Vice- Commissioner of the FIGC, however, came just six months back again later.
