Demetrius I Qadi

Demetrius I Qadi, also Dimitrios I. (Joseph ) Cadi ( Kadi ), ( born January 18, 1861 in Damascus, Syria, † October 25, 1925 ) was from 1919 to 1925 Patriarch of Antioch of the Melkite Greek Catholic Church.

Ecclesiastical career

Demetrios was appointed Archbishop of Aleppo in Syria on 27 October 1903. Patriarch Cyril VIII Geha consecrated him bishop on 29 November 1903. This was followed on April 6, 1919, the appointment as Patriarch of Antioch, which was confirmed on 3 July 1919. After three years he was thus Sedisvakanz successor of Cyril VIII Geha. In his short tenure, which was supported by the political events and the League of Nations Mandate for Syria and Lebanon to France, he started within the church reforms. He prepared the establishment of bodies that should have a say in canon law. He was, like his predecessors, the spiritual protector and promoter of Lazarus Order.

Consecrator

During his patriarchate he was consecrator of Maximos Sayegh Archbishop of Tyre, as the Maximos IV Sayegh Cardinal should be his successor later. He also consecrated Titular Archbishop of Myra Etienne Soukkarie dei Greco - Melkiti and Patriarchal Vicar of Alexandria in Egypt; Basilio Khouri Archbishop of Homs in Syria; Basilio Cattan Archbishop of Beirut and Jbeil in Lebanon; Antonio Farage titular bishop of Laodicea in Syria by i Melchiti and Patriarchalprokurator in Antioch; Melezio Abou- Assaleh Bishop of Baalbek in Lebanon and Joseph Kallas ( Tripoli ) Bishop of Tripoli in Lebanon.
