Demi-Quartier

Demi-Quartier is a commune in the French department of Haute- Savoie department in the Rhône-Alpes region.

Geography

Demi-Quartier is located at 1054 m above sea level. M., northeast of Megeve, about 55 km southeast of the city of Geneva (air line). The scattered settlement community extends into a short left tributary valley of the Arve in the ascent to Megève, in the Savoy Alps at the foot of Mont d' Arbois.

The area of ​​8.90 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the Savoy Alps. The main settlement area is located in the open valley floor of Megève, which is oriented from southwest to northeast and is drained to the Arve. The hollow of the gently inclined slopes is flanked on both sides (if not built ) some with meadows, are passed partly with forest. To the west, the municipality's area extends to the height of Croix des Salles (up to 1700 m above sea level. M. ), to the east on the slopes of Mont d' Arbois, at the 1780 m above sea level. For Demi-Quartier, which has no real center, includes several hamlets and holiday settlements and isolated farms, including:

  • Vauvray (1180 m above sea level. M. ) on the eastern slopes of Croix des Salles
  • Petit Bois (1100 m above sea level. M. ) at the foot of Mont d' Arbois
  • Les Choseaux (1215 m above sea level. M. ) on the western slopes of Mont d' Arbois
  • A part of Ormaret ( 1125 m above sea level. M. ) on the eastern slopes of the Croix des Salles

Neighboring communities of Demi-Quartier Combloux are in the north, Saint- Gervais- les- Bains in the east and Megève in the south.

Attractions

Demi-Quartier has no village church, but is in every hamlet a chapel. The oldest is that of Ormaret, which was built in 1495.

Population

With 981 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Demi-Quartier is one of the smaller towns in the Haute-Savoie region. Since the early 1970s, a substantial population increase was recorded thanks to the attractive residential area. Today, the settlement area of Demi-Quartier is conjoined with that of Megève.

Economy and infrastructure

Demi-Quartier was until well into the 20th century a predominantly coined by farming village. Today there are various operations of small businesses. Many workers are commuters who engage in the larger towns in the area, especially in Sallanches and Cluses, their work. In recent decades, Demi-Quartier has developed due to its proximity to Megève into a holiday resort.

The place is a good infrastructure. It lies on the main road N212 that runs from Sallanches via Megeve to Albertville. Another road connection with Saint- Gervais- les- Bains. The nearest links to the A40 motorway is located at a distance of around 11 km.
