Demir Kapija

Demir Kapija ( Macedonian Демир Капија by the Turkish Demir Kapı, German: Iron Gate ) is a village and a municipality in Macedonia. The village is situated at the confluence of the Bosavica in the Vardar. It lies in the southwest of the country near the border with Greece. Located near the village there was the medieval fortress Prosek, in the autonomous feudal lords Dobromir Hraz and Strez ruled.

Population

The municipality of Demir Kapija has according to the census of 2002 4.545 inhabitants, of which 87.9 % Macedonians and 7.6 % Turks.

Culture

Previously the village as Stena ( gorge ) and Prosek was known. One attraction is the cave Bela Voda.
