Demister (vapor)

Eliminators ( aerosol also, English demister ) separate liquid droplets from gaseous media such as air or process gases.

  • 3.1 gas scrubbing
  • 3.2 recovery of process fluid

Operation

Droplet advantage of the higher inertia of liquid droplets compared with the lower inertia of them containing gas. For this purpose, the humid gas is guided by baffles, in which the direction of gas flow is deflected several times. The liquid droplets can not follow why these impinge on the internals and settle there, these changes of direction. With increasing deposition of these droplets flow downward. In a bunded area, the liquid can be collected then.

Types

Eliminators are usually installed in the upper part of a container. The lower part of this container is used as a collecting space for the liquid.

Wire mesh droplet

Wire mesh demisters are made of mesh- shaped wires connected. The mesh size is generally less than 1 mm, and is determined depending on the materials passing through it. The separation efficiency is increased by using multiple layers of wire mesh are overlapped.

Lamella

Lamella are composed of multiple juxtaposed plates. These sheets are formed wavy. Due to the relatively small plate distances it comes as a permanent change in direction of the gas flow and thus for the deposition of liquid droplets.

Beds

For random packings bodies are arranged one above the other. These beds rest on a support grid, which is provided with holes, so that the gas this rust and it can flow through the bed located.

Applications

Gas scrubbing

When gas scrubbing a gas ( eg air from a combustion process ) flows through a constantly kept wet area in which fixed and pollutants from the liquid are taken ( eg water). However, the gas absorbs the liquid. To ensure that this gas leaves the plant dry, mist eliminators are used in front of the plant output.

Recovery of process fluid

In industrial plants, fluids are injected in order to remove materials from the gas in the gases. Often these fluids are to be used over a long period of time. For this reason, the liquid can be taken out again from the gas after the treatment or after subsequent processes. One means for this are eliminators. For the purposes of this comes eg glycol drying plants.
