Democracy ( Democracy ) is a play in two acts by Michael Frayn. Its action focuses on the chancellor Willy Brandt and his resignation in the wake of the Guillaume affair. The piece was premiered in a production by Michael Blake Moore on 9 September 2003 at the Royal National Theatre in London. The German -language premiere of the long, translated by Michael Raab around 2 hours and 40 minutes work took place at Berlin's Renaissance Theatre on May 6, 2004.

Reception history

Democracy won "Best play" the 2003 London Evening Standard Theatre Award. In addition, it was nominated in 2005 in the categories "Best play" for the Tony Award and Drama Desk Award.
