Democratic Congress

The Democratic Congress ( DC; initially Ntsu Democratic Congress, NDC) is a party in Lesotho. It was founded in 2012 and has been in the parliamentary elections in 2012 the strongest party.

History

As of 2010, there were tensions in the former, only the ruling party Lesotho Congress for Democracy (LCD). The Prime Minister Bethuel Pakalitha Mosisili lost an internal vote and left in February 2012 with 45 other MPs the party. The new party was initially Ntsu Democratic Congress, after Ntsu Mokhehle, the former head of LCD precursor Party Basotho Congress Party.

The elections on 26 May 2012, the party ran as Democratic Congress and scored 40 percent of the vote and 41 of 80 direct mandates. Thanks to the partial proportional representation she received another seven mandates, but missed 48 of 120 mandates an absolute majority. Their strongholds were the south and east of Lesotho, where she won all the constituencies.

Mosisili entered 30 May 2012 back by the Office of the Prime Minister. With the swearing in of the new Prime Minister Tom Thabane the DC became the main opposition party.
