Democratic Modernist Pole

The Democratic Modernist Pole (Arabic القطب الديمقراطي الحداثي, French Pôle démocratique moderniste, abbreviation PDM, Arabic short القطب, Qotb al -, the pole ') was a secular and leftist political alliance in Tunisia. It was founded in May 2011, following the Tunisian revolution and before the election to the Constituent Assembly.

The alliance consisted of five community groups and four political parties, the largest of which Ettajdid - motion. Attempts by the Democratic Modernist Pole, to establish a coalition with other parties before the elections failed. Riadh Ben Mustapha Ben Ahmed Fadl and were the founders of the group, it was led by Ahmed Brahim, the Secretary-General of Ettajdid. On September 7, the PDM announced its list of candidates for seats in the Constituent Assembly in all 33 constituencies at home and abroad. Among the leading candidates were 16 women and 17 men. Pre-election polls said the block up to 20 % of the votes ahead.

In fact, the PDM was contrary to all expectations, only 2.8 % of the votes and 5 of the 217 seats in the Constituent Assembly. After the election, the Members of the PDM joined with other secular parties (PDP, Afek Tounes ) and non-Party people who were in opposition to the three-party government ( "Troika " ), a parliamentary group (Alliance) together. The provisions of the interim Constitution Act ( " mini-constitution " ) from December 10 and the subsequent election Moncef Marzoukis the interim president by a vote of Ennahda, Ettakatol and his Congress Party (CPR ) rejected it.

In April 2012, the small Republican Party fused with the PDP and Afek Tounes to new, larger Republican Party and thus retired from the PDM. Shortly thereafter merged Ettajdid movement, Tunisian labor party and non-party members of the PDM to the Social Democratic way. Thus, the alliance broke up actually.
