On 1 April 2001 Slobodan Milošević was arrested and extradited illegally on 28th June at the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia in The Hague. The Assassination of intelligence Momir Gavrilovic employee on 3 August 2001 was widely blamed on the government and caused a negative media coverage. Two weeks later, the Democratic Party of Serbia, left (DSS ), the government and the party alliance.

After the assassination of Zoran Djindjic in 2003, the Alliance began to fall apart. After a few more scandals and corruption scandals, the DOS government lost the confidence of Parliament.
