Democratic Party (Turkey, current)

The Democratic Party (Democrat Parti, DP ) until May 2007, the True Path Party ( Yol Partisi Doğru, DYP ), is a liberal-conservative party in Turkey. It stands for secularism and sees himself as a successor of the former Democratic Party from the 1950s. History

The DYP took its original name again to join forces with the ANAP for the 2007 General Election. The alliance failed, however, shortly before the deadline. The ANAP decided out not participate in the election, the DYP came under the new (old ) name to DP, but failed at the 10 - percent threshold. Mehmet Ağar announced during the counting of votes (22 July 2007) that he resigns from his post as party leader.

On 17 May 2009, a party congress was held. This Huesamettin Cindoruk was elected in the third ballot, the chairman of the party. On 31 October 2009, the ANAP eventually merged with the DP.

On 16 January 2011, a party congress was held at the Atatürk Sports Hall in Ankara, there was 566 votes Namik Kemal Zeybek elected as the new party chairman.
