Democratic Republic of the Congo general election, 1965

General elections were held in Congo- Kinshasa between 18 March and 30 April 1965 which followed the promulgation of a new constitution, which was adopted by popular vote in the previous year.

223 political parties were for the election of 167 seats in the Chamber of Deputies.

The elections were won by parties that were connected to the Congolese National Convention. They were led by Moise Tshombe and together won a total of 80 seats. After the elections, the results were disputed by various parties. The Leopoldville Court of Appeal accepted six complaints from them, which led to new elections in Central Kivu, Goma - Rutshuru, Cuvette Centrale, Fizi, Kwilu and Maniema, which were held between 8 and 22 August 1965.

Although Tshombe party won the election, President Joseph Kasavubu Évariste Kimba appointed by the Congolese Democratic Front for the Prime Minister, a situation that Joseph Mobutu finally led to the introduction of the military coup in November.
