Democratic Union for Revival

The Union for Democratic Rebirth ( Rebirth, georgian დემოკრატიული აღორძინების პავშირი, Demokratiuli Agordsinebis Pawschiri ) was a regionally oriented party in Georgia. It was founded in 1992 under the name Adscharische Union for the rebirth of Georgia. In 1998, she received its present name. Chairman was the head of state Adscharas, Aslan Abashidze. The party has been disbanded after the change of power in Ajara on 6 May 2004.

They fought for the protection of regional interests and called for an independent from the central government regional self-government. The economic rise should be made by free market way, connected with the welfare state guarantees as in the former Soviet Union. In foreign policy they advocated a rapprochement with Russia.

In elections in Ajara, the rebirth party always received more than 95 % of the vote. The Board of Governors Adscharas it represents the majority and the government. In the Georgian parliamentary elections in 1995 they got 7.03% of votes and 31 seats. In 1999, a run of their electoral coalition with socialists and unity Union 25.18 %. Of the 51 seats of the alliance accounted for 15 seats among the rebirth party. In the Georgian Parliament, she served primarily as a spokesman for the adjarian government.

After the so-called Rose Revolution in Georgia in 2003 the party's popularity declined dramatically. The rebirth was called as the only opposition party to demonstrations for the embattled President Eduard Shevardnadze in Tbilisi. Party leader Abashidze publicly declare his solidarity. In the Georgian parliamentary elections on 28 March 2004, the party slipped to 6.01% of the vote. In parliament, she had six deputies who won direct mandates. The city council of Tbilisi they occupied four of 49 seats.

The party moved a newspaper that had to be subscribed to by all members, and a news agency. Both bore the name Agordsineba.
