The Democritus University of Thrace (Greek Dimokritio panepistimio THRAKIS Δημοκρίτειο Πανεπιστήμιο Θράκης ) is a state university in Western Thrace (Northern Greece ), with approximately 13,000 students and a main site in Komotini and secondary locations in Xanthi, Alexandroupolis and Orestiada. The University is a member of the network of Balkan universities.

The Democritus University of Thrace was founded in 1973 and is named after the ancient Greek philosopher Democritus. The university is organized today in two schools with a total of 18 departments.
