The Den Helder station is the largest railway station in the Dutch city of Den Helder. The station is used daily by about 5000 people ( 2009). He is a central hub in urban public transport. At the station, at national regional and long-distance trains. It is the terminus of the railway line Nieuwediep -Amsterdam. In the immediate vicinity of the station is the ferry terminal, from where the crossing to the island of Texel is possible.

History

The first station was opened on 20 December 1865, the railway line Nieuwediep -Amsterdam. The current station was built in 1958 a little further south than the former. The electrification to Den Helder in 1958 was completed. Since 1980, Den Helder has about three kilometers south of the station is another station called Den Helder Zuid.
