Denis Colin

Denis Colin ( born July 24, 1956 in Vanves ) is a French bass clarinetist and composer of the World Jazz and Modern Creative.

Life and work

Colin studied at the Conservatory of Versailles and the University of Vincennes clarinet, composition and musicology, and then mediated by Jo Maka to care for the free jazz. Since 1977 he has performed with Steve Lacy and Alan Silva. Between 1979 and 1982 he was a member of the faculty of the Institute for Artistic and Cultural Perception. He played with Silva Celestrial Communication Orchestra, in François Cotinauds Texture group, in Luc Le Masnes Bekummernis and François Tusques (since 1988). In 1991 he founded his own trio with cellist Didier Petit and percussionist Pablo Cueco that moved between world music and jazz and has also been expanded to a quintet Les Arpenteurs since 1995. In part, this trio has also worked following a U.S. tour with musicians from the Minneapolis scene. 2007 Colin joined with singer Gwen Matthews at the Toronto Jazz Festival. In 2009 he founded his large-format Société des Arpenteurs with which he presented two albums and 2010, has played in the Berlin Jazz Festival. With Chander Sardjoe he was on tour in Australia in 2011.

Colin also wrote theater and film music. Since 2003, he joined occasionally with Archie Shepp.
