Denis D'Amour

Denis D' Amour, nickname Piggy (* 1959, † August 26, 2005, Montreal) was a Canadian musician. He gained as a guitarist and principal songwriter of the metal band Voivod awareness. His trademark was the combination of progressive rock with complex jazz chords. The magazine Guitar World led D' Amour in 2004 to number 93 of the 100 best metal guitarists of all time.

Denis D' Amour grew up in Jonquière, an industrial city about five hours north of Quebec City. His first band Death Dealer he founded in 1980 together with his high school friend Michel Langevin on drums. The two met in 1981 Jean -Yves Theriault, a local DJ, D'Amour know and taught him to play bass. In November 1982, the trio formed the thrash metal band Voivod, whose main songwriter and musical D' Amour was, until his death. His nickname " Piggy " he received due to his corpulence. The mid-1990s he ran together with Voivod drummer Michel Langevin, and bassist Jason Newsted Metallica Tarrat the project, but which does not make it past the demo stage. In spring 2005, was diagnosed with colon cancer D'Amour, on 26 August 2005 he died in a hospital in Montreal. He left the musicians Voivod around 20 demo songs on his laptop, which formed the basis for the 2006 studio album released Katorz. In addition to his activities for Voivod he played on their 2001 comeback album of the Canadian rock band Aut'Chose a the guitar parts.
