Denis Villeneuve

Denis Villeneuve ( born October 3, 1967 in Gentilly, Quebec ) is a Canadian film director and screenwriter.

Life

He studied film at the Université du Québec à Montréal and assisted after the documentary Pierre Perrault when running a film at the North Pole. After numerous music videos and short films he made in 1998 with The 32nd August on earth his debut as a feature film director. The film, starring Pascale Bussières and Alex Martin in the lead roles attracted international attention, including at the Viennale 1998. Maelström With a 25 -year-old Canadian woman who runs over a Norwegian fisherman, he succeeded in 2000, the breakthrough. The extraordinary drama has won several awards and was the big winner of the Prix Jutra and Genie 2001.

The 32nd August on earth and Maelström were Canada's contributions for an Oscar nomination in the category Best Foreign Language Film, but both were not nominated. Only The woman sings - Incendies (2010) 2011 received an Oscar nomination. The drama is based on a play by Wajdi Mouawad and tells the story of coming from the Middle East, Jeanne, who after the death of his mother (played by Lubna Azabal ) in her native returns to find her missing brother and her unknown father.
