History

The territory of the present-day city was popular because of its rich wild animal stock at Indians and trappers. The Providence Western Land Company of Providence, Rhode Iceland bought 20,000 acres in the center of Crawford County and instructed their employees Jesse W. Denison a settlement to gründen.1856 already 235 people had settled there. Because of its central location, he suggested to put the administrative headquarters of the Crawford County to this place. This was so decided and the place named in his honor " Denison ". Jesse W. Denison had built homes and businesses advertised in newspapers and on the settlement, after which the population rose. This was followed by difficult years, which were marked by civil war and conflict with Indians and outlaws. 1902 a new courthouse was built.
