Denizbank

Deniz Bank A.Ş. (from türk deniz for sea ), is a private bank in Turkey, the 99.85 % owned by the Russian bank Sberbank Group since 2012.

History

Deniz Bank was founded in 1938 as a state-owned bank to finance the then growing Turkish maritime industry. In 1992, the then Turkish government a certain number of banks that were state property, to consolidate; Deniz Bank merged with EmlakBank.

In 1997, a banking license from the Turkish government under the name Deniz Bank, without significant assets other than 3 stores advertised. Zorlu Holding acquired the bank from the Turkish Privatisation Agency in 1997 for 70 million U.S. dollars and in September of the same year the company was incorporated. With the revitalization program new stores were opened under the new name. The expansion was the acquisition of branches of other banks, especially from the Tarişbank in 2002, supported. Deniz Bank also expanded into the international market with acquisitions and start-ups of banks in Austria, Russia and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.

Structure and Finance

It has expanded its product range by opened up in fields such as investment banking, brokerage, factoring and leasing. The name Deniz Bank was subsequently changed to " Deniz Financial Services Group ". Currently the group has 13 subsidiaries and employs more than 10,000 employees.

On 31 May 2006, the Belgian bank Dexia took over first 75% of the shares of Zorlu Holding for 2.437 billion U.S. dollars and announced that the name of the bank itself will not change. Deniz Bank had on 20 September 2010, a total 489 branches. On September 28, 2012, the Dexia Holding sold the Deniz Bank for 2.79 billion euros to Sberbank.
