Dennis Irwin

Dennis Irwin ( born November 28, 1951 in Birmingham, Alabama; † 10 March 2008) was an American jazz bassist. Life and work

Irwin, who learned the clarinet since the age of nine, he studied from 1969 to 1974 at North Texas State University classical music. He joined while studying double bass and played in the university band "Two O'Clock Big Band ".

In Dallas, he played at the beginning of his musical career with pianist Red Garland, then he moved to New York. There he worked with Charles Brackeen and Albert Dailey. In 1975 he became a member of the band of Ted Curson. In addition, he accompanied jazz singer Jackie Paris, Betty Carter, Annie Ross, Tania Maria and Mose Allison. From 1977 to 1980 he was a member of Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers. The Jazz Messengers was also attended by several of Irwin's compositions on as " Kamal ". Irwin also worked with Mel Lewis ( 1981-1990 ) Stan Getz, Johnny Griffin ( 1988-1991 ), Valery Ponomarev, Horace Silver, Jim Snidero, Bennie Wallace, as well as with Brazilian musicians Duduka da Fonseca and Portinho and occasionally with Chet Baker and Tad Shull. In 1992, Irwin began working with guitarist John Scofield to hear on the Blue Note albums "What We Do", " Hand Jive " and " Groove Elation ". In 2001, he was with Joe Lovano on a European tour.

His partner was the singer Aria Hendricks, daughter of Jon Hendricks.
