Dennis J. Roberts

Dennis Joseph Roberts ( born April 8, 1903 in Providence, Rhode Iceland, † June 30, 1994 ) was an American politician and 1951-1959 Governor of the State of Rhode Iceland.

Early years and political rise

Dennis Roberts attended Fordham University and then studied until 1930 at the Boston University law. After qualifying as a lawyer, he began in Providence to work in his new profession. Politically, Roberts was a member of the Democratic Party. Between 1935 and 1939 he was a member of the Senate of Rhode Iceland. In 1938 he was also chairman of the Democrats in Rhode Iceland. In the years 1936, 1940, 1948 and 1960, he participated as a delegate to the Democratic National Conventions relevant. Between 1941 and 1951 he was mayor of his hometown of Providence. His tenure was interrupted by the Second World War, in which he took part as a soldier in the U.S. Navy.

Governor of Rhode Iceland

In 1950, Roberts was elected as the new governor of his state. After it was confirmed three times, he could officiate between 2 January 1951 and the January 6, 1959 as governor.
