Dental canaliculi

Dentinal tubules ( dentinal tubules ) indicate about 1-2 microns large cavities that run through the dentin of the tooth from the outside to the inside.

They house the Tomes fibers of the odontoblasts and unmyelinated nerve fibers. The cell bodies of the odontoblasts located along the dentin - pulp border and its appendages extend to just below the enamel-dentin border. In the dentinal tubules is the dentin. Dentinliquors movements are an important factor in Schmerzätiologie which is referred to as hydrodynamic theory.

The dentinal tubules of the two adjacent dentin layers do not communicate with each other, thus the connection of the outer dentinal tubules to the pulp ( " tooth nerve" ) is interrupted. This is a protection against the inflow of agents (acids, toxins) in the pulp tissue. They stand with nerve endings on the dentinal indirectly connected, so that can be perceived through the dentinal tubules, pain, temperature, pressure and other stimuli. The density of the channels decreases with increasing distance from the dentin pulp boundary to the tooth surface from the back.

If the dentinal tubules opened, for example by a tooth fracture or a preparation ( grinding ) of the tooth for a tooth filling or crown, then one speaks of a dentine. Not biocompatible filling ingredients can lead to pulpitis via dentinal tubules. Likewise, there is a risk of bacterial contamination, which can also lead to inflammation of the pulp.

Sensitive tooth necks also occur on the forwarding of stimuli, especially of cold stimuli via the dentinal fluid in the dentinal tubules.
