Denver City is a town in Yoakum County in the U.S. state of Texas in the United States.

Geography

The city is located in the south of the county, in West Texas, about 15 miles from New Mexico is removed and has a total area of 6.5 km ² without significant water surface.

History

The town was founded in 1939 after oil was discovered in this area, by CS Ameen and Ben Eggink. Just one year later, the city had 3,000 residents and 120 businesses. In 1943 the oil boom subsided, and the place had about 2000 inhabitants in 1944, 1945, 1750. However, Denver City remained an important supply point for the surrounding oil fields and the ranchers in the region. In the early 1950s the town began to grow again, from 1,858 residents in 1952, the population increased to 3,800 in 1955. The economy reached its peak, the place in the 1970s and 1980s with a new oil boom. The population declined after the end of the boom of 5,251 inhabitants in 1990 to 3,985 in 2000.

The town has a public library, a hospital, a radio station and a twice -weekly newspaper.

According to the census of 2000, there were 3,985 people in 1,366 households and 1,102 families. The population density was 615.4 inhabitants per km ². The racial the population was composed of 68.38 % White, 1.53 % African American, 0.78 % Native American, 0.20 % Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander residents from the and 27.60% from other ethnic groups. Approximately 1.51% were of mixed descent, and 47.15 % of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

Of the 1,366 households, 44.1% had children under the age of 18 living with them. 66.7 % were married couples living together. 9.5 % had a female householder with no husband, and 19.3% were non-families. 18.1 % of all households were single-person households and 9.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.89 and the average family size was 3.29 persons to.

31.4 % of the population were under 18 years old, 8.9% from 18 to 24, 26.3% 25-44, 21.3% from 45 to 64, and 12.1 % who were 65 years or older. The average age was 34 years. For every 100 females of all ages were 91.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, 86.6 males.

The median income for a household was $ 29,418, and the median income for a family $ 35,972. Males have a median income of $ 35,156 versus $ 15,476 for females.
