Denver Cutthroats

The Denver Cutthroats are an American ice hockey franchise of Denver in the State of Colorado. The team was founded on 10 April 2012 and plays from the 2012/13 season in the Central Hockey League ( CHL). The team plays in the 8,140 -seat Denver Coliseum. The team colors are dark blue, green, red and white. The name of the team is derived from the official state fish of Colorado, the cutthroat trout (Oncorhynchus clarkii ).

History

After the number of teams in the Central Hockey League between the 2010/11 season and the season 2011/12 was shrunk from 18 to 14, arrived in February 2012 for the first time on rumors about the establishment of a new franchise in the state of Colorado. The team should get the name Denver Grizzlies. On 10 April 2012, the resettlement was at the beginning of the season 2012/13 finally confirmed; as is the fact that the team will get a different nickname than Grizzlies. On 17 May 2012, the team name Cutthroats as well as team logos and colors were eventually introduced. A month later was taken with defender Aaron MacKenzie, the first player in the franchise history under contract.

On July 19, 2012, the Denver Cutthroats and the Colorado Avalanche of the National Hockey League agreed on a cooperation for a season. The Cutthroats act since a so-called farm team of the Avalanche and the Lake Erie Monsters of the American Hockey League.
