Denys Baptiste

Denys Baptiste ( born 14 September 1969 in London ) is a British jazz musician (soprano saxophone, tenor saxophone ) of the Modern Creative.

Life and work

Baptiste was known as a member of the bands by Gary Crosby ( Jazz Jamaica Allstars ), Alex Wilson, Guy Barker and Tim Richards ' Formation Spirit Level before he recorded his first album under his own name in the 1990s, 1999, Be Where You Are, the was nominated for the Mercury Music Prize and the MOBO Award for Best Jazz Act won in 1999.

Baptiste then took two more albums; in September 2003 was his third album Let Freedom Ring!. It refers in the form of a four-part suite - role models are Charles Mingus and Carla Bley - a famous speech by Martin Luther King from 1965. It was nominated for the 2004 MOBO Award for Best Jazz event; besides, it was awarded the 2004 BBC Jazz Awards as Best New Factory and Best Album, and the Parliamentary Jazz Award for Best Album of 2004.
