Department of Infrastructure, Energy and Resources

The Department of Infrastructure, Energy and Resources ( DIER short ) is an agency of the Government of Tasmania, responsible for the management of the infrastructure of the state. She reports to David O'Byrne ( Minister for Infrastructure ), Bryan Green ( Minister of Energy and Natural Resources ) and Nick McKim (Minister for Sustainable Transport ). The authority is divided into several main areas:

  • The Office of Infrastructure, which is responsible for the operation, expansion and maintenance of the road network with a total length of 3660 km.
  • The Office of Energy (Office of Energy Planning and Conservation ), which coordinates the energy supply of Tasmania. Responsible for example, Hydro Tasmania the operator of hydroelectric power plants.
  • The Office of Mineral Resources ( Mineral Resources Tasmania), responsible for granting and monitoring concessions for the exploitation of raw materials.
