Departments of Honduras
Honduras is divided into 18 administrative districts ( departments ).
The largest area of the department of Olancho is - according to the population it's Francisco Morazán, where there is also the country's capital Tegucigalpa. The smallest department by both area and population is Islas de la Bahía.
The departments in Honduras are in turn in a total of 298 municipalities ( Municipalidades ) divided. For statistical purposes, the municipalities are further subdivided into 3,731 Aldeas, and this continued in 27 969 caserios. At the lowest level, some are caserios further subdivided into barrios or colonias 3336.
