Deportivo Alavés

The Club Deportivo Alavés is a Spanish football club based in Vitoria- Gasteiz, capital of the Basque Country and the Basque province of Álava.

The one in the 2013/14 season in the Segunda División ( second highest Spanish League ) playing club plays its home games with blue and white striped jerseys and blue pants at the Estadio Mendizorrotza (capacity 19,900 ).

History

The club was founded in 1921. Initially called "Sport Friends", the name was changed already on January 21, 1921 in Club Deportivo Alavés.

Although Deportivo Alavés is behind Athletic Bilbao and Real Sociedad 's third biggest club in the Basque Country and in 1930 for the first time rose to the highest class, the association can hardly have Erstligapräsenz. Overall, the club has so far spent ten seasons in the Primera División.

Mid -1980s was the club from bankruptcy, to the team with the help of Athletic Bilbao and the sale of international goalkeeper Andoni Zubizarreta later managed to avoid.

The most successful period of the club from 1998 to 2003, when the club for five consecutive years was first class and 2001 in the UEFA Cup final achieved the greatest success in club history with the feeder. In this final game the team defeated with 4:5 after golden goal against Liverpool.

El Glorioso ( " the Glorious " ) had to compete according to the 2002/ 03 season the transition into the second division. For the 2005/06 season, the club was able to rise in the Primera División again, finished end of the season but the 18th place in the table and immediately rose again. In the following two years of falling into the third division was initially prevented scarce. However, at the end of the 2008/09 season, the club had the aisle in the Segunda División B take. In the season 2012/13 Alavés succeeded four years after the descent to return to the second division.
