Deportivo Quito

Sociedad Deportivo Quito is an Ecuadorian football club from the capital Quito. The club was founded in 1955 and plays its home games at the Estadio Olímpico Atahualpa in, which seats nearly 40,000 spectators. Deportivo Quito was four times football champion of Ecuador and currently plays in Serie A.

History

The Club Deportivo Quito was founded on February 27 of 1955 in Quito, Ecuador's capital city. He replaced the club Sociedad Deportiva Argentina, which was launched in 1940. As a club colors were selected red and blue, which are characteristic for the club today. Since its inception, Deportivo Quito plays its home games at the Estadio Olímpico Atahualpa, which adopts some 40,000 spectators, making it one of the largest football stadiums in Ecuador.

In the 1950s and 1960s had Deportivo Quito initial successes at national level. In 1957 was a founding member of the Serie A, the first professional league in Ecuador and to this day major league in the country. Seven years later, in 1964, the time had come and the club was first Ecuadorian soccer champions after in the league a first place was occupied and the championship playoffs against CD El Nacional and Liga de Quito were recovered. Four years later, the club was able to celebrate the second championship. After intermediate descents from Serie A and the second division championship in 1980 Deportivo Quito was only in 2008 again champion. Previously the club had distinguished by excellent youth work, various players in the ecuadorianianischen national team that took part in 2002 and 2006, twice in a row at a World Cup, came from the youth section of the club, for example, Álex Aguinaga, Ulises de la Cruz and Edison Méndez. Deportivo Quito took the previous eight times in the Copa Libertadores, the most important football tournament for club teams in South America, in part. The greatest success came in here in 1989, when they finished in a group with CD Los Millonarios and the eventual winners Atlético Nacional, both from Colombia, as well as the Premier League rivals Emelec Guayaquil, ranked third and survived the group stage so far only time.
