Der arme Teufel

The poor devil was an American anarchist magazine, published in Detroit (Michigan ) By 1884 until 1900.

History

The first two volumes of the journal were published in the sense of freethinkers movement and primarily consisted of articles on the subject of religious criticism. In issue # 583, page 83, February 1, 1886, the publisher Robert Reitzel stated that the poor devil was an anarchist publication now. After Max Nettlau was the magazine " a treasure trove seriously and lovable liberal and rebellious hearts and minds cutting -edge social criticism and Zersausung of authority in all its open and disguised forms ". Half of the posts were taken from the magazines Society, Time, The Future, the magazine for literature and Simplicissimus. According to the then laws of spending 86, 88, 93, 100, 104 and 107 were banned. The subtitle was organ of the poor devil Clubs and themes of policy and literature were preferred. In 16 vintages 822 issues were published. Successor of the poor devils were edited by Martin Drescher magazines Wolf Eyes, a sheet for free spirits, published in 1900 and The Gypsy (Chicago, 1902 ).

Authors and contributors were: Karl Henckell, John Henry Mackay, Christian Wagner, Leo Tolstoy, Adolf Ehrenberg, Franz Held, Edward Fern, Georg Herwegh and others.
