Der Schlern

The Schlern is a monthly magazine for the South Tyrolean regional studies. The thematic focus on science and research, art and culture of the country historical perspective. The magazine is named after the Schlern, a 2563 m high, characteristically shaped mountain in the Dolomites, named.

An independent national historical Journal of South Tyrol was a reflection of the Tyrol was divided after World War II, when the southern part of the country came to Italy. The first issue appeared on 1 January 1920. Initially the Schlern was issued as a semi- monthly journal. The first editors was Francis Young.

At the time of National Socialism, the magazine was banned after it had been renamed already in its last issue of the fascist government in the Sciliar and finally suppressed. In 1946 the ban was lifted by an imprimatur of the Allied administration.

Font director is Dr. Irmgard flow; scientific advisory board is Hans Griessmair. The magazine is now printed and published by the publisher Athesiadruck (formerly Tyrolia ) in Bolzano.
