Derek Luke
Derek Luke ( born April 24, 1974 in Jersey City, New Jersey ) is an American actor.
Life and achievements
Luke made his debut in a 1999 episode of the TV series King of Queens. In 2002 he played in the film drama Antwone Fisher, the main role of Antwone Fisher, a sailor in the U.S. Navy, which is treated by Dr. Jerome Davenport ( Denzel Washington). For this role he won in 2002 the National Board of Review Award and in 2003 the Independent Spirit Award and twice the Black Reel Award. He was the Online Film Critics Society Award and the Chicago Film Critics Association Award nomination in 2003 for the Teen Choice Awards, the MTV Movie Award.
In the action movie Biker Boyz Luke took opposite Laurence Fishburne one of the main roles. In the thriller Spartan by David Mamet, he played one of the major roles. For his role in the film Catch a Fire, in which he starred opposite Tim Robbins, he was nominated for the 2006 Satellite Award and in 2007 for the Black Reel Award. From 2009 to 2010, he was featured in a starring role in the American television series Trauma. This was followed by larger supporting roles in films such as Captain America - The First Avenger and Looking for a Friend for the End of the World.
Derek Luke has been married since 1998 to actress Sophia Luke ( born Sophia Adella Hernandez ).
