Derek Mahon

Derek Mahon ( born November 23, 1941 in Belfast ) is a Northern Irish poet.

Life

In addition to his lyrical works, he is also known for translations from French, as well as a screenwriter. In the English -speaking world, and especially in Ireland, he is best known for his poem A Disused Shed in Co. Wexford, a meditation on, inter alia, the oblivion, the Peripheral, oppressed and ordinary. This poem is partly treated in schools and universities and is also found in many anthologies.

Mahon now lives in Dublin.
