Derek Pugh

Derek Charles Pugh (* February 8, 1926; † 2 May 2008 Tooting ) was a British athlete.

1946 saw the first European Championships after the Second World War, held in Oslo. In the 400 - meter race, the Dane Niels Holst -Sørensen won in 47.9 seconds ahead of Frenchman Jacques Luni in 48.3 seconds, Derek Pugh was 48.9 seconds in third. Two days later the British 4 × 400 meter relay won in 3:14,5 minutes silver with a tenth of a second behind the French squadron.

At the 1948 Olympic Games in London Pugh retired from over 400 meters in the quarterfinals. The British squadron had already failed in the flow.

In February 1950 at the British Empire Games in Auckland Pugh was about 440 yards in fourth. The British 4 × 440 yards relay team won silver behind Australia. At the European Championships in August 1950 in Brussels Pugh won in 47.3 seconds as European champion over 400 meters in front of Jacques Luni. The British squadron in the occupation of Martin Pike, Leslie Lewis, Angus Scott and Derek Pugh as the final runners won in 3:10,2 minutes before the scales from Italy and Sweden.
