Derek Roy

Derek Roy ( born May 4, 1983 in Ottawa, Ontario ) is a Canadian professional ice hockey player on the position of the center, which is since July 2013 with the St. Louis Blues in the National Hockey League contract.

Career

Roy began his career with the Kitchener Rangers in the Ontario Hockey League and was 87 points topscorer of the Rangers in the season 1999/2000, which earned the distinction of being in the OHL Rookie of the Year. The following season he was able to confirm this performance and achieved 42 goals and 39 assists. NHL Entry Draft 2001, he was selected by the Sabres in 32 out, but continued to play in the OHL. In the season 2001/ 02 he set new career records for goals scored and points collected and remained the top scorer of the Rangers.

In his final OHL season 2002/ 03 he was appointed to the Canadian junior national team to participate in the U20 World Championships. He returned with the silver medal and has also won the Player of the Day award. In the same year, the Rangers were able to win Memorial Cup, where Roy served as team captain and won both the Wayne Gretzky 99 Award as well as the Stafford Smythe Memorial Trophy.

For 2003/ 04, the Sabres Roy sent initially to the Rochester Americans in the American Hockey League. However, he completed only 26 games for the Amerks, he played a large part of the season for the Sabres in the NHL. Roy then returned to the Americans, as the NHL season was canceled in 2004/05 because of the lockout. At the start of the following season, he managed the training camp of the Sabres not to be appointed to the NHL squad and started the season again at the Amerks. In eight games for Rochester, he was able to achieve 20 points scorer, so he was called by the Sabres in the NHL squad and has since been employed there.

In July 2013 Roy signed a one year contract with the St. Louis Blues.

Internationally

Derek Roy participated with the Canadian national team at the Junior World Championships in 2003 and won the silver medal. Five years later he repeated this success with the Lord selection of Canada, where he was one of ten points scorer of the best scorers in the team Canada.
