Derek Ryan (ice hockey)

Derek Allen Ryan ( born December 29, 1986 in Spokane, Washington ) is an American professional ice hockey player who is under contract with the EC VSV in the Erste Bank Hockey League since July 2012.

Career

Derek Ryan began his career with the Spokane Chiefs of the Western Hockey League. He then enrolled at the University of Alberta and studied physiology there. In parallel, he played for the Hockey Team of the University, the Alberta Golden Bears in the Canada West Universities Athletic Association of the Canadian Interuniversity Sport ( CIS). In his first year in college hockey, he won the championship with the Bears of the CIS, the University Cup. In 2010, he reached with his team again the championship final, in which the Bears the Saint Mary's Huskies documents with 2:3. During the following season he was one of the outstanding players in the league and has been honored with several awards - among other things, he was named Most Valuable Player of the Western Conference. In 2011 he finished his studies and opted for a move to Europe. He received a one-year contract with SAPA Fehérvár AV19 from Székesfehérvár in Hungary and played with this club both in the multinational Erste Bank Hockey League, as well as in the Hungarian Hockey League.

In 2012 he moved within the EBEL for EC SV Villach. There he was immediately the most productive players in November 2013 and received the invitation to represent his home country as part of the Germany Cup. He was the first player to make the leap from the Erste Bank Hockey League succeeded in the U.S. selection. His international debut celebrates Ryan on November 8, 2013 Munich against the Slovak selection. With two wins and one defeat, the U.S. won the tournament, Ryan contributed to this success with three assists.

On March 28, 2014 Derek Ryan recorded three assists in the semi-final match against HC Bolzano and exceeded with a total of 99 points scorer Todd Eliks season record ( 98 points in the season 2006/ 07).

Private

Derek Ryan is married and owns a home in Spokane. In December 2013 Ryan's first son was born.
