Derek Stepan

Derek Stepan ( born June 18, 1990 in Hastings, Minnesota ) is an American professional ice hockey player who stands in July 2010 with the New York Rangers in the National Hockey League contract. His father Brad was also a professional hockey player.

Career

Derek Stepan has been selected as a high school player in the NHL Entry Draft in 2008 in the second round than a total of 51 players from the New York Rangers. Subsequently, the Center first played two years for the team from the University of Wisconsin -Madison in the National Collegiate Athletic Association, before he received a professional contract with the New York Rangers to the 2010/11 season. On 9 October 2010, he scored on his debut for the Rangers in the National Hockey League during the 6-3 victory over the Buffalo Sabres scored three goals. This was previously only three other players in the NHL in its 93 -year history and no player of the New York Rangers. For the NHL All-Star Game in 2011, he was nominated as one of twelve rookies participating in the Honda NHL Super Skills.

Internationally

For the U.S., Stepan took part in the U20 Junior World Cup 2010, where he led his team as captain for the World Championship title. He scored 15 points scorer in seven games. He was not only top scorer of the tournament, but with ten assists also best assist provider. In addition, he was elected to the All-Star Team of the tournament. For the World Cup 2011 Stepan was first nominated to the squad of U.S. seniors choice for a tournament. During the competition he came in all seven games of the USA for use, scoring seven points scorer - which he was the best scorer of the team - and failed with the team in the quarter-finals against the Czech Republic.
