Derive (computer algebra system)

( " Derived " or undocumented ) Derive is a commercial mathematics software, the ( Honolulu) was developed as a successor of muMATH in the 1980s and later marketed by Texas Instruments from Soft Warehouse. Compared to other PC-based computer algebra systems, the low hardware claims Derive allow ( the MS -DOS versions found easily on a floppy disk space ) the use of computer algebra systems in environments with older or limited hardware equipment.

Mid -1990s, served as the basis for some Derive calculator developments such as the TI -92 by Texas Instruments ( with its successors and parallel versions of the TI-89, TI- 92 Plus and Voyage 200).

One of the first countries in which in various projects, the use of Derive has been tested in practice, Austria was. For several years, the program is used in the so -called " project-based mathematics education " in Germany. Derive is not further developed by Texas Instruments in existing form, but should go up in the medium term TI -Nspire CAS. The latest version is 6.1 Derive.

Examples of the syntax

  • Solving systems of equations:

SOLVE ( [2a ^ 2x 3 y = 7, x = 5 y 0], [ x, y] )

Leads to the solution:

[x = 35 / (10a ^ 2 3 ), y = 7/10a ^ 2 3]

  • Differentiate:

DIF (SIN (a x ^ 2), x)

Is differentiated or derived to:

2a x COS (a x ^ 2)

Further developments

The development and sale of Derive were set with the 29 June 2007.
