Dermabrasion

Dermabrasion is a method for the mechanical abrasion of the skin. It can be applied in the following cases:

  • Scars caused for example by accident or acne
  • For the removal of superficial tattoos
  • With pigmentary changes ( discoloration ) of the uppermost layers of the skin
  • In benign lesions ( eg age spots )

An excessively thin skin ( eg in the area of the eyelids ) the Dermabration can not be applied. In extensive burns and very puffy scars, this treatment also promises no success.

The procedure is performed under local anesthesia with an additional semiconscious sedation. It can also be performed under general anesthesia.

With a special bur only the top layer of skin is removed. Underlying skin layers are preserved. After treatment, the wound healing is aided by the application of a medicament is combined with the wound exudate. After about eight to ten days, the scab dissolves. The scab is to be replaced under any circumstances.

The first three to six months after the treatment the skin is red. During this time, the patient should refrain from sunlight.
